If you smell gas, immediately put out all smoking materials and any open flames. In addition, don't operate any lights, telephones, appliances or cell phones as flames or sparks from these sources may cause an explosion or fire. Whenever you smell propane gas that you suspect may be leaking, you need to immediately leave the area and evacuate the building or area where you suspect that gas might be leaking. Once you've left the area, you should try to shut off the main gas supply valve on your propane tank, once it is safe to do so.
Once you've exited the area and are safely away from the source of the smell, you should immediately report the leak from a neighbor's home or other nearby safe location by calling Gibson Propane immediately. If you can't reach your propane retailer, call 911 or your local the fire department immediately. More than anything, do not return to the building until your propane retailer or fire department has determined that it is safe to do so.
Finally, you should always have a qualified and trained service technician from your local propane retailer perform a complete propane system check and any of your propane appliances to make sure the remain completely leak free before you attempt to use any of them.
